My Story
Born in Durban, KwaZulu Natal, I studied fine art at the Natal Technikon under some of South Africa’s foremost contemporary artists. The late 70’s were exciting times to be studying art; I graduated with an HDipEd majoring in Painting in 1980.
Many years were spent journeying in the commercial arena, with my creative passion taking a firm back seat. Art-making was confined to some oil paintings, graphite and charcoal drawings, cartooning, comic book development, boardgame development, and some creative woodwork; all valuable experiences that enhance the interpretation of current subject matter.
My work can be described essentially as abstract expressionist; the human figure features prominently.
I enjoy the fluidity and smoothness of oil painting especially on large canvases, and each piece stands in some way as a declaration of hope in a dark broken world, a synthesis of light and shadow, beauty, truth and redemption.
