Portraiture is always challenging technically and compositionally; I have come to enjoy portraiture as it stretches me technically and forces me to engage with other people during the art-making process. The portrait needs to reflect not only a likeness of the model but must embrace and depict the character of the individual.
Jenny, in the late season of life, a lovely gentle lady gives of herself to all she becomes involved in, has lived a full life; her gentleness belies the pain of some of her stories and the struggle(as do all people in the later years of their lives) of the ageing of her body – in spite of all this she has a grace that touches the lives she encounters.
